The current flag was chosen while we were a dominion of the British Empire, embodied by the union jack and blue, red white colours. Canada, for example, switched away from a similar style flag nearly 50 years ago. Why we've kept this flag for so long is bewildering considering Australia is an independent nation. What I've proposed is a flag that utilises the specifically Australian components of the current flag (southern cross, federation star) and applied it to a design consistent with the other flags I've made as well as using colours more closely associated with Australia. I really don't like the yellow Stars on the Australian White Ensign for the same reason. Naval Ensigns should be white with red and blue features.
